The Insular Councils of La Palma, Gran Canaria
and El Hierro (Canary Islands), together with the Autonomous
Governments of Madeira and Azores, bring the TOURMAC project
into operation for the development of an integrated offer of "Trekking
Tourism", within the framework of the Community Initiative INTERREG
III B - Azores-Madeira-Canary Islands.

TOURMAC seeks to be the way to achieve the protection
and diffusion of the natural and cultural heritage linked to
the "traditional trails" of Azores, Madeira and the Canary
Islands, making the most of their economic potential for the
local development of these territories, and making use of the
attraction exercised by trekking on present-day society. Likewise,
the sociocultural interchange of the trekkers with the local
inhabitants of each region will be promoted.
The territories participating in TOURMAC will
create officially approved and signposted networks of trails,
integrated with their heritage resources. The offer of "Trekking
Tourism" will be jointly promoted and commercialized on the
international level.
