  • MAIN DIFFICULTIES:
  • The path is fairly straightforward but has two difficulties. One of them is transit of the lava surface, simpler these days thanks to the path. It is advisable to stay on the latter, not only to avoid damaging the surroundings, but also because the lava-covered terrain makes for extremely hard going, in addition to the risk of cuts and grazes if falls occur. The second tricky zone is on the path back, on the section descending to Llano de Tamanca, which is narrow, very steep and hard going, although short.

  • NATURE RESERVES WITHIN THE TRAIL:
  • Parque Natural de Cumbre Vieja.

  • RECOMMENDED TIME OF THE YEAR:
  • All year round.

  • SPECIFIC ADVICE:
  • Habitual precautions common to hiking in general are listed below. At the risk of sounding obvious, here are some of the most important: - Check weather forecasts before setting off to hike. - Don´t go alone - Tell someone your intended destination and expected time of arrival - Carry a small rucksack with warm clothing, waterproofs, food and plenty of water. - Don´t forget such simple items as: sun hat, protective cream and sun glasses - Carry a mobile phone with fully-charged battery, a map and, if possible, a compass. They will probably never be used but, when required, are of vital importance. - Wear suitable gear, especially footwear: trekking boots or similar are essential, trainers or pumps are to be avoided. , habitual precautions common to hiking in general are listed below. • REMARKS:
  • A visit to the lava fields is an attractive outing. If only wishing to explore the lava flow a little on foot, the steep ascent from San Nicolás can be avoided by using various paths from the Network.
