Gran Canaria is a volcanic island, rich
in contrasts. "The Continent in Miniature" is the by-name
that best reflects the wide range of landscapes that
the island offers, completed by a superior infrastructure
that turns Gran Canaria into the ideal place for leisure
and holidays during the whole year, thanks to its spring-like
climate.
The orography of Gran Canaria rises
from the coast to the centre, where the highest places
have their location: Las Nieves Peak (1950m) and Roque
Nublo (1812m). The heights are surrounded by several
craters of erosion, which constitute the head of the
ravines. Gran Canaria has got 236 km of coast, with
sandy beaches that predominate in its south-eastern
part. Here, we can find the exceptional Playa del Inglés
and the Maspalomas Dunes. In the western and south-western
parts of the island dominate the cliffs, whereas in
its northern and north-eastern parts alternate the
two kinds of coast, offering a wide range of beaches
and creeks. Nature has been generous to Gran Canaria,
endowing it with diverse landscapes, allowing, thus,
a varied tourism.
Apart from its wonderful beaches,
the constant presence of the sun and its varied
landscapes, Gran Canaria offers the possibility
of practising any sports in the open air during
the whole year: golf, tennis, swimming, volleyball,
and, of course, aquatic sports, such as diving,
surfing or windsurfing. Gran Canaria is considered
as the best second place for the practise of windsurfing,
at the Pozo Izquierdo Beach . Every year, the
international boat races that choose our yachting
harbours as a starting point, increase, adorning
the wharfs with a range of colours that make them
more striking. Enjoy your holidays and practise
your favourite sports on Gran Canaria.
