The length of this hike, plus the fact that it runs through uninhabited areas, imply a certain degree of compromise prior to starting. The itinerary should be analysed with regard to individual group capacity and possible escape routes studied. It can be divided into two sections, with the first ending in Roque del Faro (involving a 15 minute descent of the PR LP 9) or else at the Gallegos refuge hut, closer to Barlovento.
- :
Reserva Natural Integral del Pinar de Garafía.
- :
Cualquier época del año.
- :
Private vehicle or taxi. Bus connections are possible, but infrequent.
- :
Habitual precautions common to hiking in general are listed below. At the risk of sounding obvious, here are some of the most important:
- Check weather forecasts before setting off to hike.
- Don´t go alone
- Tell someone your intended destination and expected time of arrival
- Carry a small rucksack with warm clothing, waterproofs, food and plenty of water.
- Don´t forget such simple items as: sun hat, protective cream and sun glasses
- Carry a mobile phone with fully-charged battery, a map and, if possible, a compass. They will probably never be used but, when required, are of vital importance.
- Wear suitable gear, especially footwear: trekking boots or similar are essential, trainers or pumps are to be avoided.

This path corresponds to a traviesa-type route (see p. 295) and is, in fact, the natural continuation of the PR LP 10 to Barlovento (alias, La Traviesa). Connecting the two routes together would create a possible 2 or 3-day hike. |
